The Council today has a dedicated team of scientists, doctors and technical personnel with an overall strength of around 800, working in 23 centres across India. To prepare, print, publish and display any posters, papers, pamphlets, periodicals and books for maintenance of the objectives of the Council and to contribute to such literature.To exchange information with other institutions, associations and societies interested in the objectives similar to those of the Council, especially in the observation and study of diseases.To promote and assist institutions of research for the study of diseases, their prevention, causation and remedy.To initiate, aid, develop and coordinate scientific research on different aspects of Unani Medicine.To undertake research and collaborative research projects in Unani Medicine.
As an apex research organization, the Council has the mandate to aid, establish and co-ordinate scientific researches in Unani medicine. Over the years, it has contributed significantly to enhancing and evolving this traditional system of medicine along modern lines, while retaining its authenticity, distinct character and effectiveness. It takes up nationally relevant research activities in Unani Medicine, based on modern protocols. It is structured as an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, with qualified manpower and adequate financial resources. Imparting Momentum to Scientific Research in Unani MedicineĬCRUM started functioning from 10 January 1979 with the aim of building a research base for the system together with focused objectives and plans for its development and modernisation. The Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) was established in 1978 by the Central Government as a natural consequence of such recommendations. In post-independence India, a number of committees appointed by the Government strongly recommended research and development in the Indian Systems of Medicine, including the Unani System.
